Karhu has been in existence since 1916 and sports shoes, skis and other sports items in addition to shoes. Karhu is the Finnish word for bear. This bear can be found in the brand logo. Initially the company was called Ab Sport Articles. Since 1920 the name Karhu has been used.
Karhu made at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp because Finnish athletes achieved many medals with their sporting goods. In this way, they won five gold athletics medals on Karhu shoes, and with their spears they won three medals. At the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris, Paavo Nurmi won five gold medals on a pair of striking white Karhu shoes.
